My Personal Message
**Update 22nd March 2010**
Well we did it! I shaved my hair and you smashed that target! Thank you so much to everyone who came to support me on the night and to everyone who has supported me throughout this campaign, you're all amazing! This page will be left open for a few weeks, so please feel free to continue to donate - every penny counts!

**Update 16th March 2010**
Goodness gracious people you have done it again!! OK the new target is 10,000 but I have a feeling that we might smash that one too. The big night is fast approaching and if anyone is in the vicinity of Gorey this Friday 19th March, please pop into Paddy Blues to say hello to the new bald me. The shave is due to take place at 9.00pm and you wouldn't want to miss that! There will also be an opportunity for any daring people to join in the fun by shaving or waxing a body part and for those not brave enough to do that, there will be a raffle for some fabulous prizes!
Thanks again to everyone for your incredible support, you will all get straight past those big pearly white gates in the sky, no questions asked! Thanks to Keith for lending his extremely talented headshaving hands, to Brian and Paul from Paddy Blues for providing the venue and entertainment and to Jim and JJ who have both kindly volunteered to wax their legs on the night!! Thanks also to Mary for knitting me a beautiful new hat!

PS I would also like to thank my Mom and Dad...my husband Simon...my sisters...my friends...my dog Ben...my other dog Bruno (RIP)....my 4th class teacher...my medical team...and everyone who knows me...sniffle!
**Update 16th February 2010**
I am just so overwhelmed by your generosity and the incredible pace at which the original target of 3000 was reached! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! The awareness is still spreading and the donations are still coming thick and fast so I thought it pertinent to increase the target amount to avoid any confusion and if we reach/exceed 8000 please don't let that stop you from donating to this very worthy cause.
The planned shave is going ahead on Friday 19th March 2010, just after the St. Patricks Day celebrations and (hopefully) just before the Six Nations celebrations! It is also a poignant time for me because I was diagnosed on St Patrick's day 2003. It will take place in Gorey and the venue is still to be confirmed but I will notify you regarding that as soon as I can, just in case any of you would like to come along to witness this incredibly insane act!
By the way, I was trying to thank each and every one of you personally for your kindness but I simply can't keep up. So if I haven't thanked you yet, please be patient!
**End of Update**
Hello to all you lovely people,
Thanks for visiting my personal fundraising page. In case you don't know why you're here, I have decided to take the somewhat drastic step of shaving my hair off in aid of the Irish Cancer Society. Now it may seem like no big deal because eh hello...been there done that but it has taken me just over six years to grow it back to this length so I am a teensy weensy bit nervous.
I'm doing this for many reasons, first of all, it's important to me to give something back but I would also like to raise awareness amongst young people about the risks of getting cancer. I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 25 and young as that may seem, its not as uncommon as people might think. I know other people who have been directly affected by cancer in their 20s, 30s and 40s. Its a common misconception that youre not at risk until you get older; the breast screening programme, for example, is aimed solely at women over 50. Thats why it is up to us to be aware of our bodies so that we can help ourselves, giving ourselves the best chance of survival against this yucky disease.
So people, my message is very simple...
WOMEN: FONDLE YOUR BOOBIES
MEN: GRAB YOUR LIATHRΣIDΝ
OK calm down, its not just about copping a cheap feel! Look out for any lumps and bumps that feel suspicious to you and if its causing you concern, go to your GP. Cancer doesnt discriminate and can pounce at any time so your survival is up to you. Fortunately, my mother taught me to feel my boobs from an early age and that saved my life. Thanks Mum!!
