My Personal Message

Hey Guys,

Thanks for visiting my personal fundraising page. The SHARE A DREAM CHARITY help hundreds of sick children & their families escape from their painful treatments, loneliness and fear and for a short time replace them with fun, laughter, friendship, love and happy memories by organising dreams come true. I would very much appreciate your support in helping me to raise funds for this most deserving charity. Please take a very short moment in your day to visit their website www.shareadream.ie for all their details.

The 100 Mile Run in Connemara is a brand new running experience for myself and I am under no illusions as to the challenge that awaits me on August 11th. To date I have run numerous Marathons and some Ultra Distance Races up to the 50 Mile distance. In preparation to complete this race I shall be running 7 days a week ; averaging 80-100 miles each week. The long training runs will range from 20-40 miles and I shall be running 2 very long runs each week on consecutive days. Should anyone wish to join me for a few miles in my training please feel free to give me a call ; my mobile is 085 1368988 ; the company is always very much appreciated.

The Connemara 100 Mile Race on August 11th is drawing ever so closer now. Thankfully my training to date has gone very much to plan and luckily no major injuries to concern me. This week July 9th to 15th I ran my longest training run to date on the very scenic but equally very testing Shelmalier forest trails completing 41 miles. The following day saw me run another 26.2 miles again on these trails. Most fortunate that my wife Madeleine and daughter Aoife have been especially supportive of my efforts and have assisted me so much with my food intake at the feed station. My weekly visit to my Masseur Ger Dempsey has managed to save my legs from the constant wear and tear and for that I am very grateful. Most fortunate to be surrounded by a wonderful support team including my very good friend Rob O Brien (Cobh), Ger Dempsey, Sandra Murphy & Sarah Bates (Run 4 Fun Club) and my wife Madeleine and daughter Aoife.
Apart from the weather and the magnitude of the distance for this 100 Mile Run I was quite concerned about nutrition. Having raced the Dingle 50 Mile Ultra in 2010 I was restricted to eating a banana for the distance as my irritible bowel was a major factor for that run. My preparations for the 100 has involved alot of running and eating on the run and I will certainly keep my fingers crossed that I will be sound nutrition wise come August 11th. To date 15 have entered to run the 2012 Connemara 100 so will have some like minded company for the roads.

The Connemara 100 Mile Road Race is now over ; all 100 Miles have been run. Yesterday I took "some time" to write a decent report of my Connemara Race Day experiences on my Facebook Page. Should you have a spare 20 /25 minutes and are interested please give it a visit. It was a very long day in my Life one that i shall always treasure. Thoughts of Share A Dream were never too far from my conscious ; especially when my body was becoming more exhausted during the later hours of my race. 25 brave souls started out on the journey including Jerry Forde a remarkable athlete that covered the entire distance in his wheelchair. Inspiration and motivation was everywhere from fellow entrants to the support crews and general well wishers. Personally huge lessons were learned today ; I discovered the importance of friendship and how my friends were always there for me in the good and the bad times during this rollercoaster ; secondly to "Never Give Up". Thanks to Ray O Connor the Race Organiser and Connemara for the experience of a Lifetime. Congratulations to Mick Rice the Champion who has now won this race on 4 consecutive years.
