My Personal Message

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for visiting my personal fundraising page. I am running in the North Pole Marathon on April 7th 2011. Please check it out on www.npmarathon.com. I have started my preparations for the race and hope to be fit and ready by the 7th of April 2011. All funds raised will go directly to the charity I am doing it for and that 100% of all funds collected will go to them. I have a sponsorship card also that i can post out to you if you send me your details to my e-mail address at rscully@goal.ie

I have kindly been given free Flights and free accommodation and Entry into the race by the Race organiser Richard Donovan. So all funds raised will go directly to the charity mentioned. I have set this page up for GOAL the charity I work for.

You can donate using the "sponsor me now" button below via credit or debit card. You can be assured that your transaction on the www.mycharity.ie website is very secure. You will automatically receive an e-mail from me thanking you for your support, and acknowledging the amount of your donation. Any donation no matter how small is hugely appreciated. Alternatively you can contact me on rscully@goal.ie and I can post you out a sponsorship card or two.

GOAL Charity worker, Ronan Scully, is training to run a marathon with a difference – the North Pole Marathon – to raise funds for the charity he works for GOAL.

Ronan will be making rare footsteps in the North Pole when he takes place in what is also known as ‘the world’s coolest marathon’. All of Ronan’s Flights and race entry have been fully sponsored by the Race Organiser and Irish Ultra Marathon Runner Ritchie Donovan as a donation to Ronan’s event and this means that all monies raised will go directly towards this charity event.

Ronan, who is a Regional representative for The Humanitarian Charity GOAL in the West of Ireland and midlands said: “2011 is shaping up to be a year I’ll definitely remember. The race will be a challenge but it’s something I am keen to do to support GOAL and some of my favorite charities. Although the race isn’t until April 2011, I’m already training hard, which means I may not be able to indulge as much as I normally would this Christmas.”

Entrants in the North Pole Marathon are told to train as if it is a normal marathon; however, this is by no means normal. The 26.2 mile race is the only certified marathon run on the ocean, with competitors running entirely on the frozen ices that overlays the Arctic Ocean. As if running on ice wasn’t enough to contend with, temperatures are expected to be between –20°C and –30°C.

Ronan has pledged to try and raise funds for GOAL and some of his favorite charities by asking people to take a sponsorship card to support his marathon run and also to make a donation online when they visit his my charity page at link http://www.mycharity.ie/event/ronan_scullys_northpole_marathon_charity_run_2011/

For more information about GOAL and the various charities that Ronan is hoping to raise funds for and for further information on the North Pole Marathon go to Ronan Scully face book page or to his my charity page or contact Ronan Scully at rscully@goal.ie

About my charity

GOAL

About GOAL

GOAL is an international humanitarian agency dedicated to the alleviation of the suffering of the poorest of the poor. GOAL is non-denominational, non-governmental and non-political. Since being established in 1977, GOAL has proudly kept our administrative costs exceptionally low.

What GOAL Does

GOAL works towards ensuring that the most vulnerable in our world and those affected by humanitarian crises have access to the fundamental needs and rights of life, i.e. food, water, shelter, medical attention and education.

GOAL has responded to nearly every major natural and manmade disaster for over three decades and is currently operational in 11 countries across the developing world. As well as responding to emergencies, GOAL implements rehabilitation and long-term development programmes and works with local partner organizations that have the same objectives as GOAL. While GOAL’s priority is to bring life-saving assistance to people affected by humanitarian crises, through the provision of food, healthcare and other basic services, it also prioritises programmes which care for street children and people affected by HIV/AIDS.

Once emergency situations have been resolved, GOAL implements a wide range of rehabilitation and development programmes including primary healthcare, the rehabilitation of homes, clinics and schools, water and sanitation provision and capacity building with local partner organizations.

Fundraising for GOAL

While GOAL welcomes all fundraising proposals, please note that we do not support events involving extreme sports such as parachute jumps. Neither do we support events which incur costs to be paid for from donations or funds raised by the event. If you have any queries please contact GOAL’s Fundraising Department on +353 (0) 1 2809779.
