My Personal Message

Hey Guys,

Thanks for visiting my personal fundraising page. I'm going to do 180 km cycle around Ring of Kerry (http://www.ringofkerrycycle.ie/) and all contribution are going towards The 3Ts charity.

The 3Ts (Turn the Tide of Suicide) charity is a very worthy cause and I would very much appreciate your support in helping me to raise funds for this charity.

Please read a few words about the charity that I have chosen to support below. You can donate using the "sponsor me now" button below via credit or debit card. You can be assured that your transaction on the mycharity.ie website is very secure. You will automatically receive an e-mail from me thanking you for your support, and acknowledging the amount of your donation. Any donation no matter how small is hugely appreciated.

Many thanks in advance for your support,

Piotr
3Ts (Turn the Tide of Suicide)

3Ts (Turn the Tide of Suicide) is a registered charity (CHY15710) founded to raise awareness of the problem of suicide in Ireland and to raise funds to help lower suicide rates through dedicated research, educational support and intervention.  The 3Ts receives no government funding but relies solely on fundraising and donations.

The No. 1 killer of young men in Ireland is not cancer, nor is it road traffic deaths, it is Suicide. Over 600 people in Ireland are estimated to die through suicide annually, one in six suicide deaths are males under 25 years, one in four are males under 35 years. There are a  staggering 12,000 presentations of deliberate self-harm annually to A & E Departments, a figure believed to represent only a fraction of cases.  There are approximately two  deaths by suicide every day in Ireland, with three times more people dying by suicide than die on our roads.

It is part of the 3Ts ethos to distribute funds raised across a variety of projects and organisations working in the fields of deliberate self-harm and suicide prevention, intervention and post-vention, donations to 3Ts contribute to a variety of 3Ts supported projects which can range from research programmes, to supporting small organisations working at grass roots level to helping fund training or support workshops.

Most recently, 3Ts has been appointed by the National Office for Suicide Prevention a safeTALK co-ordinating site, enabling the charity to provide safeTALK Suicide Intervention Training for interested groups and organisations.  Through this half day training programme, 3Ts trainers can provide participants with the skills needed to identify and approach someone who may be feeling suicidal, and equip them with the confidence and knowledge needed to seek the necessary professional help or intervention for that person. Other projects currently at the planning stages by 3Ts will support and complement this training initiative.

The more awareness we have as a community about the issues of suicide and deliberate self-harm, the more opportunities we create to lobby for change. 3Ts has been involved in a variety of successful awareness projects which we believe have contributed to bringing the problem of suicide to the public consciousness.

3Ts continues to lobby Government to take a new approach to suicide prevention, calling on them to set up a Suicide Prevention Authority. Our thought-provoking video outlines why an authority is so badly needed and our online petition gives supporters the opportunity to get behind our campaign. You can view the campaign video & sign the petition on our 3ts.ie website at http://www.3ts.ie/about/suicide-authority-campaign/. We urge you to please take the time to look at the video and sign the petition. We need your help to be heard.
