My Personal Message

*UPDATE: The cycle has been completed successfully and I have arrived in North Africa. you can see photos and read about the trip at http://cycletoafrica2007.blogspot.com

On Saturday 20th October I started on a 4,000km Cycle to Africa in Aid of Heart House in the Mater Hospital and on Saturday 1st December I arrived in Ceuta, North Africa. Many thanks to all those who have help support the cycle and I will continue to fundraise back in Ireland until the end of the year.

Heart House is a pioneering cardiac unit based in Dublin’s Mater Hospital, which this year set up the first Cardiac Screening Unit in the country to help prevent Sudden Cardiac Death Syndrome.
You can read about Heart House and the work that it does at http://www.materfoundation.ie/work/heart_house.html

The Cycle will take me from Dublin through Wales, England, France and Spain before crossing into North Africa at Ceuta.
The aim is to cover about 100km a day and the entire route should take between 6 - 7 weeks.
I will be covering the entire route cycle myself with help from a number of people who will be joining in a for a day or two along the way. Everything I need for the trip will have to be carried in the bags on the bike as there will be no support Vehicle.

Maps of the route as well as daily updates on progress can be found at http://cycletoafrica2007.blogspot.com

Please read a few words about the charity that I have chosen to support below. You can donate using the "sponsor me now" button below via credit or debit card. Peter Galvin
