My Personal Message
Hey Everyone,
My family and I set up the Martin Whitehead Hospice Fund in March 2010 following our Dads goal for us to raise 250,000 for Our Ladys Hospice Harolds Cross. Dad passed away in the hospice on 8th of November 2009 after spending 11 weeks in their loving care.
Seeing your Dad go into a hospice at 51 years of age was a very difficult experience. Before he went in we felt the same as a lot of people do when they hear the word Hospice... scared. Within a couple of days, once we watched the care and compassion he received from all the staff, we knew that this was the right place for him to be.
Each day during those 11 weeks we got to know many of the staff on St. Gabriels Ward. Day after day we watched how each and every one of them treated their patients and their families. On the tough days, when you were upset (and there were a lot of them) within minutes there was a caring arm around your shoulder coupled with words of support.
Our Dad to them was not just another patient, he was a person, a much loved husband, dad, grandad, son, brother and friend as are all their patients to them. They cared for and respected him and for that we cannot thank them enough.
About 7 weeks into his stay in the hospice Dad decided that he wanted to donate his much loved and barely used Kawasaki 1500 motorbike to the hospice. This he said would be a starting point for us to achieve a final of goal 250,000. He always told us Believe and you will achieve and one day we believe we will reach his goal.
Our main aim as a family is not just to meet this target but to promote the care and experience that patients and their families receive while in the Hospice and in doing so help change peoples overall perception.

Thanks so much to Fergal and the DIT Opera Society who raised 2400 in their Christmas Concerts which were held in Knocklyon and around the country raising money for Our Ladies Hospice and local hospices. The concert in Knocklyon was a great night with The Knocklyon Gospel Choir and The DIT society putting on a great show.
Thanks also to Liz O Brien who donated a beautiful Christmas cake which was raffled in the Old County Bar and raised 295.00

Thanks to Burchi and Joe Murphy who grew fine tashes and donated their sponsorship to the hospice.
October 2011
Thanks to our super fit friends Kathy, Kev, Kevin and Vinny who ran the Dublin City Marathon achieving great times and raising a fortune for the Hospice. Well done to you all.
We raffled off our Dad's bike on the 4th of February this year and in doing so raised over 25k for the hospice.
We would like to thank our family, friends, colleagues, Dublin businesses and of course the hospice. They are all truly amazing and we are so lucky to have their support, without them we could not make Dads dream a reality.
Thank you so much to everyone who has donated, attended or organised our events our events over the last 16 months. Your continued support means so much to us and helps us through the tough times.
Best of luck to everyone who is competing in the Marathon this October.
Huge thanks to the Licensed Vintners Association who donated 20,000 to the hospice following Martins wishes.
