My Personal Message
Hey Guys,
Thanks for visiting my personal fundraising page. The Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland charity is a very worthy cause and I would very much appreciate your support in helping me to raise funds for this charity.
Over the next 3 years the plan is to complete 40 Marathons in 40 Months, culminating in the Dublin Marathon in 2013 which will be my 100th Marathon. I also intend to do numberous other events over the 3 year period both running and also some more mentally challenging events. 100% of this money is going directly to those who need it most the People with CF. I am not taking anything for my expenses.
Please read a few words about the charity that I have chosen to support below. You can donate using the "sponsor me now" button below via credit or debit card. You can be assured that your transaction on the mycharity.ie website is very secure. You will automatically receive an e-mail from me thanking you for your support, and acknowledging the amount of your donation. Any donation no matter how small is hugely appreciated.
Many thanks in advance for your support,
Gerard |
About my charity
Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland
The Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland, which is totally dependent on fundraising and voluntary donations, is the body responsible for the provision of a wide range of services to the Cystic Fibrosis community in the Republic of Ireland. We provide: - Assistance, financial or otherwise, to persons with cystic fibrosis and their families
- Funding for medical research into the cause and cure of this incurable disease
- Funding of specialist multidisciplinary posts in hospitals throughout Ireland
- Campaigning and lobbying at political level for improved treatments and facilities for persons suffering with cystic fibrosis
Cystic Fibrosis is Ireland's most common genetically inherited disease. In ireland, we have the highest incidence of the disease in the developed world, with 1 in 19 members of the population being carriers of the recessive CF gene. It is when two carriers of the recessive gene parent a child together, there is a 1 in 4 risk of the child having the disease. There is no cure at present for this disease.
