My Personal Message

Hey Guys,

Thanks for visiting my personal fundraising page.

Each summer, UCD students and staff travel overseas to developing countries to undertake development projects in India, Tanzania, Haiti and Nicaragua. In July, I’m lucky enough to travel to Haiti for 6 weeks with a small group of twenty students.

Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world, even prior to the devastating earthquake which hit the island in January 2010.

The days will be broken into two parts – summer camps for young children in the morning, and the construction of a much needed health centre in the afternoon.

I’ve always wanted to travel overseas and take part in a project like this, and while I’m so excited to get on that plane, I know that it’ll bring it’s own challenges.

In order to get me there, I must fundraise €2500. €500 of this will go towards the project itself, purchasing materials for the constructions site, arts and crafts supplies for the summer camps and other bits and bobs that are required on the ground. The remainder is for flights, upkeep, visas, etc.

I fully appreciate the many demands on peoples finances, but your donation, no matter how small, will make a difference.

You can be assured that your transaction on the mycharity.ie website is very secure. You will automatically receive an e-mail from me thanking you for your support, and acknowledging the amount of your donation.

About my charity

UCD Volunteers Overseas

UCD Volunteers Overseas is a charitable organisation which offers students, staff and alumni of University College Dublin the opportunity to engage in voluntary work in developing countries. We currently have projects in India, Haiti, Nicaragua and Tanzania, and work alongside local communities in carrying out small-scale development projects which respond to local needs.

UCDVO works on projects in the areas of education, environment, healthcare, construction and information technology. By channelling the skills, energy and enthusiasm of university students into such activities, communities can access a source of support to improve the quality of life in their area. UCDVO not only provides opportunities for volunteers and host communities to share and develop skills, it also generates greater understanding and respect for differing cultures and life experiences.
