My Personal Message
Hi all,
Haiti was hit by a massive earthquake on Tuesday 12th January 2010 which has devastated the capital city of Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas. Thankfully, our Alumni project group returned home safely from Haiti on Monday the 11th January. We are now trying to mobilize people to help in the response to this awful disaster 200,000 people are reported dead, many more wounded and missing including a large number of international peacekeepers. Haiti continues to get scorned by natural disasters and when a country is already crippled by poverty it is even more difficult to comprehend what people are going through at this time.
We have been holding street collections around UCD and in the city centre as well as Night club events; we would like to thank everyone who helped out and have supported this appeal. We aim to send the money collected to our missionary partners (Religious of Jesus and Mary) who are working on the ground in Haiti and will be heavily engaged in the development efforts within communities in Port-au-Prince and throughout the country.
We will continue to fundraise for Haiti and our other development projects over the coming months and years and hope that your support will continue. If you would like to carry out your own fundraising events in aid of the UCDVO Haiti Appeal, please contact caroline@ucdvo.org for more information on what's required.
Many thanks for your help.

About my charity
UCD Volunteers Overseas
UCD Volunteers Overseas is a charitable organisation which offers students, staff and alumni of University College Dublin the opportunity to engage in voluntary work in developing countries. We currently have projects in India, Haiti, Nicaragua and Tanzania, and work alongside local communities in carrying out small-scale development projects which respond to local needs. UCDVO works on projects in the areas of education, environment, healthcare, construction and information technology. By channelling the skills, energy and enthusiasm of university students into such activities, communities can access a source of support to improve the quality of life in their area. UCDVO not only provides opportunities for volunteers and host communities to share and develop skills, it also generates greater understanding and respect for differing cultures and life experiences.
