My Personal Message
HOT PRESS!!! THANK YOU!!!
The IHA & Irish Men's Hockey team have been bowled over by the response of the Hockey Family far and wide and by friends, supporters and sports fans everywhere to the appeal for funds to get the team to the Champions Challenge in Argentina at the end of November.
The appeal, only launched at noon on Friday 5th, has exceeded the target this morning with four companies coming on board to take the public contribution (in excess of €55K!) over the line. Further details will be released in a statement later today.
This website will remain open until close of business today (Tuesday 9th October), should anybody wish to contribute. Please note any additional funds raised will be ringfenced into the National Mens Team budget.

Get Green Machine Going
Irish Men’s Hockey Team Withdrawal from Champions Challenge (Argentina – November)
With regret a decision was made by the Board of the IHA to withdraw the team from the forthcoming Champions Challenge 1 in Argentina. Given the 2012 budget deficit the Board made the decision to focus the team around the World League 2 competition in February and the imminent appointment of the new national coach. This decision was brought about by a number of recent events, but primarily financial, that conspired to force an evaluation of priorities– http://www.hockey.ie/news/185953/t_t_m_t_om_o_d_d_l
The FIH (International Hockey Federation) has given Ireland until Tuesday evening to confirm their intentions. We have a window of opportunity to reverse this decision if we can raise €45,000 in this timeframe!
Impact of not going to the Champions Challenge
The decision is not without its costs. There will be a fine to the organisation and there is the potential of further loses from deposits paid. However, the biggest loss will be felt in zero ranking points for not competing and a further ranking penalty loss that will push the team back down to 18 on the January ranking list.
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!!
If you can help by making a contribution, however large or small, it will go straight to ‘GetGreenMachineGoing’ and send the team on their way and give them a chance to fulfil the dream of getting to the World Cup. Just think, if 4,500 friends of Hockey each donate €10 we will get the Green Machine back on the Road to Argentina.
Team Background
The Irish Men’s team have risen steadily up the World rankings in the last two seasons to a high of 15. In March of this year they came within a whisker of being the first Irish Team (any team sport) to qualify for the Olympics – a match that put Hockey on the front pages of the Irish Times. Most of the players are now full-time or part-time professional athletes. Recently they won their first round of the World League – part of the qualification route to the World Cup.
There is significant disappointment and frustration for the players that this decision will undo all the progress made over the last few years and the chance of playing in the World Cup.
This team that gave so much entertainment and emotion earlier this year at the Olympic Qualifying Tournament now need your support! They want to control their world ranking by their performance on the field of play! Let’s help them do it!!
The IHA wish to thank our close hockey friends in www.mycharity.ie for making their fundraising facilities available to us at short notice.
