My Personal Message
Hi Folks,
In May, 2011, I am going to be fortunate enough to travel to India with Habitat for Humanity to help build a decent home for a family living in poverty. It's a fantastic cause and will genuinely help change the lives of those families chosen. According to World Bank data, about 42 percent of India’s population lives on US$1.25 a day.
Habitat for Humanity does not build houses for people; it builds with them. It works together with homeowners and volunteers to construct, renovate or refurbish homes, using donations of money, land and materials. Once completed, houses are sold to partner families at no profit, providing a hand up, rather than a hand out. Habitat train both the family and other locals in how to build more houses and maintain their own – thus the community learns to help itself and are left with skills that help them to become self sufficient.
The trip is financed by the participants. Almost €2,000 has to be raised by each participant to pay for travel, upkeep while building, and building supplies.
You can donate using the "sponsor me now" button below via credit or debit card. You can be assured that your transaction on the mycharity.ie website is very secure. You will automatically receive an e-mail from me thanking you for your support, and acknowledging the amount of your donation.
Any donation no matter how small is hugely appreciated. I realise times are very hard at the moment.
I will update this page showing upcoming events.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Gary.
