My Personal Message
You don't know who @darraghdoyle is? He's the blogger type person who tells really bad jokes on twitter:
"Statistically, 6 out of 7 dwarves are not happy."; "Who said beer won't make you smarter? It made Bud wiser"; "I've been reading the French are concerned that 77% of their electricity comes from nuclear power. I think they should stop over-reacting." and self fulfilling prophecy "I started a parachute course then I fell out with my instructor." Awful awful stuff.
How much would you pay to have me thrown from a plane? A euro? A fiver? More?
Yes, that's right. On May 30 I'm going to be strapped to someone who will jump from a plane 13,000 feet in the air and attempt some sort of live tweeting or recording of the event. For someone afraid of heights like I am, it's a big jump.
I'm doing so to help raise awareness for Dublin voluntary group Carelocal. For the last two years they were able to organise 5 outings a year for Dublin's older people living alone, thanks to a grant. However, they haven't had a day trip since last Christmas as they don't currently have the funds to do so. All the money I raise will be put towards the next outing, which they'd like to arrange for early this summer.
I'm not asking for money - I'm asking you to help spread the word about Carelocal. However, if you'd like to donate to them, your contribution will be greatly appreciated.
I'll be tweeting and blogging about it as well as trying hard not to wet my pants. It may happen. You could help that happen.
It's also fulfilling a secret wish of mine. Seriously. Like this one time I actually enrolled in parachute school. Before long though I had to drop out.
You can donate using the "sponsor me now" button below via credit or debit card. You can be assured that your transaction on the mycharity.ie website is very secure. You will automatically receive an e-mail from me thanking you for your support, and acknowledging the amount of your donation. Any donation no matter how small is hugely appreciated.
Many thanks in advance for your support,

About my charity
Care Local
Care Local’s mission is to assist older people to remain living in their own homes, with dignity, security and company, for as long as possible, and to ensure they remain in good health, both mentally and physically. Care Local volunteers visit older people living alone, and those in long-stay residential accommodation, throughout the Dublin City Council Area. We provide activities such as art and musical entertainment in nursing homes, and organise day trips and outings for lonely and isolated older people.
