My Personal Message

The Dublin Kendo Club (http://www.dublinkendo.com/) is holding a sponsored suburi to collect money for the Japanese earthquake relief effort in Japan. We will attempt to do 5000 'suburi' cuts. Suburi is a practice cut in Kendo, the art of Japanese sword fighting. Suburi is a normal part of any kendo practice, but not in these numbers.

This page has been set up to collect donations. All online donations will go to the Ireland Japan Association - Earthquake Appeal charity.

This disaster directly affects many friends who have trained with us in Dublin Kendo over the years, so let's give something back to the country that gave us Kendo! Even a small amount can make a difference!

You can donate using the "sponsor me now" button below via credit or debit card. You can be assured that your transaction on the mycharity.ie website is very secure. You will automatically receive an e-mail from me thanking you for your support, and acknowledging the amount of your donation.

About my charity

Ireland Japan Association - Earthquake Appeal

The Ireland Japan Association would like to express its deepest sympathies to the Japanese nation and offer its condolences to all there who have lost loved ones in the recent earthquake and subsequent tsunami.

Strong bonds have developed in recent years between the two nations and between individuals in the two countries and this adds to the sense of loss which we feel.

Any Irish people who are concerned about relatives and friends in Japan should contact the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs on (01) 4082000. Please refer to the following webpage for further information: http://www.dfa.ie/home/index.aspx?id=419

For more information, and to see how to pay directly to our appeal bank account, please see www.ija.ie

 Q&A:

1) How can people help?

Concerned Irish people can help in a practical way by donating to our appeal. Although the Japanese Government has not requested the help of the Irish Government, the public can help. THIS IS A CITIZEN TO CITIZEN APPEAL.

2) What will the money be used for?

The Ireland Japan Association is a non-profit and completely volunteer association. So no monies will be taken or kept by the IJA. We intend to donate the monies raised to Japanese charities working locally in Japan. The monies will be used to help those who have been made homeless or those who have been otherwise affected by the earthquake and tsunami.
