My Personal Message

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for visiting my personal fundraising page.

Well, what is this about and who is it for?

It's in support of an incredible charity event, the Race the Rás - an 8 day long challenge to complete the An Post Rás as amateurs whilst staying ahead of the professionals chasing down the road after them for the benefit of two of Ireland hardest working charities:

* The Irish Cancer Society - doing amazing work to inform, help and support those battling cancer and funding cancer research in Ireland.

and

* GOAL - working tirelessly around the world to help the poorest in society and those that can't help themselves.

What am I doing?

Between Monday May 23rd and Wednesday May 25th my laptop isn't getting turned on.
There will be no thesis typing.
No Endnote library searching.
No scrawling through Pubmed.

Instead a much more difficult day has been tasked.

The challenge; to blitz 175km of road, the longest stage of the 2011 Rás, running between Kilrush in Co. Clare and Castleisland in Co. Kerry all the while trying to stay ahead of the pro peloton following us down the road.

It's a different kind of challenge and I hope you consider supporting it.

The Race the Ras Charity Cycle is a very worthy cause and I would very much appreciate your support in helping me to raise funds for this charity.

Many thanks in advance for your support,

Darragh

About my charity

Race the Ras Charity Cycle

Race The Rás is fund-raising organisation set up in 2011 to specifically raise money by encouraging 'ordinary cyclists' to take the route that the professionals take for the An Post Rás every May - and to do it on the SAME DAY!  The Ras (Irish for race) is a gruelling, professional cycling event which is run across 800 miles of Irish roads and mountains over 8 days. Given that the Tour de France is around 2000 miles over 20 days, this challenge is a huge one!

Taking part with these cyclists will be numerous GAA Legends from all over the country who will test themselves to the limits of endurance in an effort to raise money for charity.

Ultimately, the goal is to raise money for our 2 nominated charities - The National Breast Cancer Research Institute (NBCRI) and AWARE -  this is the challenge of a lifetime with a little madness thrown in.
