My Personal Message Hey Guys,Thanks for visiting my personal fundraising page. The Down Syndrome Ireland charity is a very worthy cause and I would very much appreciate your support in helping me to raise funds for this charity. A little more about Rev-Up for DSI from their website: "Rev-up4DSI is an annual charity motorbike event in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland. It all started in 2005 when two kindred spirits (Michael McCormick and Aidan Lynam) met. Both are Dads to young girls born with Down Syndrome (Megan and Robyn respectively) and both are keen motorcyclists. Michael (CEO of DSI at the time) was looking to run a motorcycle event for DSI and Aidan (managing a bar at the time) was thinking along similar lines. So after a fairly brief but enthusiastic meeting Rev-up was born. At the outset the hope was for 50 bikes, each raising €1,000 which would have been fantastic. Little did we know then exactly how big or how fast it would grow!!. In May 2006 we set off on the inaugural event from Joe Duffy’s BMW dealership with 94 bikes in tow about half of whom were carrying pillions and all bedecked in DSI shirts, badges and stickers. Raising in excess of €200,000 at the first attempt was an absolutely astounding achievement by all the participants and truly humbled us all. Rev-up4DSI continues to grow in size and popularity and as I type this in July 2008 We are already booking hotels and picking routes for 2009! About my charity Down Syndrome Ireland is the national organisation of people with Down Syndrome and their families with over 3,000 member families and 25 voluntary branches nationwide. It is dedicated to being the primary source of support and information to people with Down syndrome, their families and the professional community, working towards an improved quality of life along with a respect and acceptance of people with Down syndrome as valued members of Society. Down Syndrome Ireland provide a wide range of supports and services to people with Down syndrome, their families and the professionals that assist them, from support services in the early days for new parents; through to early development; educational support; health advice; projects to develop independence; advocacy; and social activities, at both national and local level.
