My Personal Message Hey Guys,Thanks for visiting my personal fundraising page. As most of you may know, I am going to Haiti this summer as part of a project with the charity UCDVO. It is very close to my heart, as it is undertaking development projects with the residents of Gros Morne (in the North of Haiti). Myself and a group of 24 volunteers will work in summer camps, where we will give english, maths but also french lessons to over 700 disadvantaged children, and organize sports and various other activities for them. We will also work in the area, in projects regarding reforestation and flood prevention (as you know Haiti is a very poor country which has been struck by various catastrophes such as the earthquake which took place on January 12th 2010). We will also undertake construction work to try and improve the standard of health and quality of life of the residents. For me to get there, I need to fundraise €2500 (€700 will go towards the project itself (materials for the children, for the construction site etc..) and the remainder goes to the flights, insurances etc..). Comme beaucoup d'entre vous doivent le savoir, j'ai eu mon bac cette année et j'ai été sélectionnée pour une double licence en droit français et anglais avec l'Université Panthéon-Assas. Dans le cadre de cette licence je suis donc partie à Dublin, où j'étudie le droit à l'University College Dublin. Au début de l'année, en m'intéressant aux associations universitaires, je suis tombée sur l'association UCDVO, qui mène des projets de développement à l'échelle locale dans 4 pays (Inde, Nicaragua, Tanzanie et Haïti). J'ai toujours souhaité faire de l'humanitaire et donc j'ai décidé de m'inscrire pour le projet Haïti et j'ai eu la chance d'être sélectionnée. Nous sommes un groupe de 25 volontaires qui partons approximativement du 22 juin au 22 juillet à Gros Morne, au nord d'Haïti. Nous allons tout d'abord travailler dans des camps d'été avec un peu plus de 700 enfants désavantagés, à qui nous donnerons des cours d'anglais, de maths, et de français (pour moi) et avec lesquels nous organiserons également des jeux et autres activités. Nous allons aussi travailler sur des projets de développement locaux qui visent à aider les résidents de Gros Mourne, car comme vous le savez Haïti est un pays extrêmement pauvre qui a été touché par de nombreuses catastrophes notamment le tremblement de terre du 12 janvier 2010. Les projets menés concernent donc la reforestation, des installations pour prévenir toute inondation, et des travaux de construction pour essayer d'améliorer le niveaux de vie des résidents. C'est un projet qui me tient extrêmement à cœur, mais je dois récolter 2500€ pour partir (700€ seront utilisés pour le projet lui-même, par exemple pour l'achat de matériel pour les enfants ou pour la construction, et le reste ira dans les billets d'avion, les assurances, le logement sur place etc..). Je sais que les temps sont durs (c'est la crise!) mais n'importe quelle donation, même la plus faible, sera la bienvenue et sera très très appréciée, croyez moi ! Je peux vous assurer que l'intégralité de l'argent récolté sera directement utilisé pour le projet lui-même. About my charity UCD Volunteers Overseas is a charitable organisation which offers students, staff and alumni of University College Dublin the opportunity to engage in voluntary work in developing countries. We currently have projects in India, Haiti, Nicaragua and Tanzania, and work alongside local communities in carrying out small-scale development projects which respond to local needs.
UCDVO works on projects in the areas of education, environment, healthcare, construction and information technology. By channelling the skills, energy and enthusiasm of university students into such activities, communities can access a source of support to improve the quality of life in their area. UCDVO not only provides opportunities for volunteers and host communities to share and develop skills, it also generates greater understanding and respect for differing cultures and life experiences.
