My Personal Message
Hi Friends,
I write to you to say thank you all for your donations over the past few months for the kids in Mercys charity Outreach Moldova. Your generosity has been to say the least extraordinary and my friends and I are completely blown away by the amount of money raised and by the support we have received since we set out on this
this adventure 12 weeks ago.
For my friends and I it has been an amazing journey. Along the way there were laughs, tears, injuries and even a touch of frost bite in -9° early January. Some of us had never even as much as run for a bus in the past 20 years but we all completed the 21Km or 13 miles in under 3 hours. Some of the more hardened ones even broke the 2 hour mark.
You can see pictures of us here before and after the race by selecting this link.. I hope you enjoy them. Some of the runners and supporters that joined me came from Ireland. You might be able to pick them out in the pictures J ! I added some comments.

For total amounts raised or further contributions please see the link here..

More money has been pledged and not yet added or transferred so we expect the total to be over our target of 7,000. Anything extra is a bonus and will also be well spent on necessities for the children to improve their quality of life. If you want to see the final total the donation page will be available for a few weeks yet.
So far offline we have riased 2,425. Thanks to O'Reillys Heidelberg/Management/Staff/Customers, Mark Hannon of Guinness, Niall Bradley and his friends, Eilish and friends, Emma and Martin Csima, Cormak, Irish Ronnie, and Ian Maguire and his customers in The Brass Monkey Old Bridge Heidelberg.
You generosity has now made it possible for Mercy to order the making of 50 of these special cots for the disabled children. She will oversee the allocation of everything we raised and she also wishes to express her thanks to you on behalf of the orphanage. http://www.outreachmoldova.org/
My pledge to you is that I will forward you pictures when the cots are complete. It will not be for a few months yet so expect to receive a mail from me mid/late summer.
Once again a very big Thank You to one and all
.especially my fellow runners Karen O'Connor, Twirly Bond, Gerry Donoghue, Andrea McCarthy, Alex Leask , Niall Bradley, Ian Maguire, Sinead McCarthy and helpers Roxanne Cannon , Johnny McEvoy and Ed McCloskey.
But without all of you out there this would not have been possible.
Stay safe ,
Damien, Karen, Twirly, Gerry, Andrea, Alex, Niall, Ian, Sinead. |
About my charity
Outreach Moldova (ORM)
OutReach Moldova (ORM) is an Irish Charity that has been working for 10 years with abandoned and orphaned children with special needs in the Republic of Moldova
Mission Statement:
Outreach Moldova is dedicated to providing basic human rights, medical care and social justice for children that have been abandoned or orphaned, children with special needs and children with terminal illnesses in the Republic of Moldova.
Goals:
The goal of ORM is to provide immediate and ongoing assistance where necessary, provide the necessary training and supervision required, assist in and develop long-term, self-sustaining programs that will have a positive and lasting impact in the lives of these needy children and their care givers. We also strive to provide for the communities working with these children
How do we achieve this goal?
We work the belief that each life matters. In partnership with the Moldovan people we hope to change the way people think about and define both “disability” and illness; We hope to break down and end the internalized shame among people with disabilities; and promote the belief in society that disability is a natural part of human diversity in which people living with disabilities can take pride.
Vision:
ORM’s vision is that each person who is physically, mentally or socially disadvantaged deserves to be given special treatment, education and appropriate care required by their particular condition regardless of circumstance.
Core Values:
- Collaboration and Cooperation with those who share common goals
- Organsiation and Openness to provide for those in need
- Respect for human dignity
- Enhance quality of life through appropriate care
- Value the input of those who want to help and hear all voices
- Assist wherever possible and advocate human rights
- Learn from those around us
- Understand that no one person can make a change, it takes an entire community
- Enable those whom circumstance has managed to disable
- Strive for sustainability
