My Personal Message

Hi,

Ethiopia is a county of contrasts. They are among the poorest people in the world and yet they have a dignity that transcends their poverty. As a people they help and care for each other, however, disease and hunger is widespread and many charities are trying to cope with the overwhelming problems that chronic poverty bestows on a society.

“Dignity House” in Ethiopia will become the centre for 40+ resident Charities and an additional 200 charities for admin services in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. We hope to build premises in Addis Ababa where charities across all society, will be able to have a base from which to do their work. Currently the charities & community groups are dispersed throughout the land and with no admin facilities and no postal delivery service they find it difficult to access funding and funders in order to stay organised, funded and helping their chosen area of need.

The area of need that will have a base there will involve:
• Disability
• Women’s Groups
• Feeding/Nourishing Programs
• Ethnic Groups
• Health Promotion Orgs
• HIV/AIDS Programs
• Educational Orgs
• Support Groups
• Food Stamp Programs
• Minority Enterprise Groups
• Homeless Orgs
• Children’s Agencies
• Orphan Groups
• Youth Programs
• Senior Groups
• Community/Voluntary Groups

The Centre will become a central space for community/voluntary/charity groups to pool resources to share costs and benefit from mutual sharing of how to operate their groups. There will be training for groups to access resources and updates in global research and developments in their area of interest and a place where they can support each other to make Ethiopia a Better place for those in most need of assistance.

About my charity

Ethiopian Centre for Independent Living
Ethiopian Centre for Independent Living

The Ethiopian Centre for Independent Living aims to change how society deals with disabled people in Ethiopia. They strive to change laws that specifically discriminate against disabled people. They pursue planners and developers to ensure new laws are introduced to allow for access for everyone to new and renovated buildings, they will tackle the employment, transport, health and education systems in Ethiopia to ensure each service is inclusive of its disabled citizens.

The Ethiopian Centre for Independent Living is owned and operated by Disabled Ethiopians who have been fortunate enough to obtain a level of  education. They live the experience of growing up in a country where disabled people are ignored and mis-treated in society and are often considereda a stigma on the family.

Their mission is to try and change how the government and society deal with disabled people so that they can achieve equality.
