My Personal Message

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page. The Temple Street Children’s Hospital charity is a very worthy cause and we would very much appreciate your support in helping us raise funds for this charity. We all know how difficult things are now in Ireland financially and how fierce competition is between charities so now more than ever Temple Street Childrens Hospital and its kids need our help.

About the swim - Its a 23-mile Strait of Dover from England to France, we would expect the swim to take approximately 12-16 Hours, the plan would be to stop every half hour for fluids and every hour for food. My support team will be Rob Forde who will swim next to me at times during the crossing as a pace swimmer to keep the tempo up, my mad cousin from Lahinch. Co Clare Antone O'Looney who's in charge of feeds, he also crossed the channel for charity back in 1990 by paddling across on a surf board using just his hands, it took him slightly over 13 hours to complete the task...Yikes..!..

The swim will be monitored by a referee from the Channel Swim Association (CSA) who will be on the support boat to make sure I do not touch or hold on to the boat at any time during the swim. I'm only allowed to wear a swim hat, goggles and trunks. Wet suits unfortunitely are not permitted so the cold will be an issue. As for the crossing and my preparation, I started training for this event in early 2008 and am now in the water every day covering between 3,000 to 17,000 Metres during sessions and on average covering over 25,000 Metres per week and devoting over 12 hours a week towards this training.

You can donate using the "sponsor me now" button (green button on left) via credit or debit card. You can be assured that your transaction on the mycharity.ie website is very secure. Finally, most of the people we know are at the stage in their lives where they now have children and we all know how important our rug rats are to us but more importantly how much we suffer when we see them suffer. Folks, this is a very good cause so please, every little bit helps..

Many thanks in advance for your support,

Breccene, Rob and Antone.

About my charity

Temple Street Children’s University Hospital

Temple Street Children's University Hospital

Temple Street is the first port of call for tens of thousands of children every year suffering from every kind of illness and injury imaginable. Our aim is to help sick children by making their stay in hospital less distressing for them and their families, by funding the purchase of medical equipment, developing new services, funding research and developing new treatment facilities.

However, the treatment we provide here at Temple Street is not limited to just the first-class medical care that we deliver. For many children and their families Temple Street Children's Hospital is a home away from home and so we treat the children of Temple Street as if they were our own. Temple Street children are special and that's why the Hospital must continue to be as extraordinary as the children that come here.

Every day you help make this possible by supporting Temple Street, thank you!
