My Personal Message Hey Guys,Thanks for visiting my personal fundraising page. The 1 in 1000 – Running for Cystic Fibrosis campaign is a very worthy cause and I would very much appreciate your support in helping me to raise funds for this charity. My daughter Zoe gave birth to Emily in November 2005 - a healthy 8lbs 2 oz. However, within 24 hours she was rushed to Our Lady’s Hospital for Children in Crumlin. Emily spent the first six weeks of her life in hospital and was finally diagnosed with CF. Cystic Fibrosis is a devastating diagnosis for any parent to receive and often there is no history of it in the family. Emily was my daughter’s first child and she knew nothing of the disease. As she read through literature the words ‘life threatening’ jumped out at her and her life was turned up-side down. In August 2007 my daughter’s second little girl, Lana, was born and she was also diagnosed with CF. While it was a lot easier to accept second time round there is a never ending cycle of physiotherapy, medication and research in the house that is needed to keep the girls well and unfortunately this will increase as they get older. As a parent she does her best to keep them in good health but their future depends on proper medical care and facilities. About my charity 1 in 1000 - Running for Cystic Fibrosis- Flora Mini Marathon, Monday 4 June 2012 1 in 1000 is a unique campaign by the Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland (CFAI) to mobilize 1000 + women to raise as much funds as possible for new and additional isolation beds and treatment units for children and adults with CF in hospitals in Dublin, Drogheda, Castlebar and Limerick. We want this campaign to bring women all over Ireland together, raise awareness, and be an enjoyable way to support a really important cause. We are asking each woman to aim at raising €200 in sponsorship, so we can reach €200,000. Last years donations saw the opening of a new 4 bed ward for children with CF in Crumlin Hospital, the donation of €87,000 to a forthcoming CF unit for children and adults in Mayo General Hospital. Also €50,000 was raised for a forthcoming CF day care facility in Drogheda and a further €40,000 was invested in new supports for parents with newly diagnosed children with CF. We encourage women to run in teams; so maybe you can get friends, family or colleagues involved – it’s a great way to get active and work towards something empowering for yourself, your team and for those living with CF in Ireland. 1 in 1000 will bring women together for a great cause, raising spirits, awareness, support and a huge sense of achievement that could not be realised by an individual alone.
