ActionAid Ireland

End Poverty. Together.

ActionAid Ireland is a member of ActionAid International, one of the world’s most respected development organisations working with over 20 million people in more than 40 countries in Africa, Asia and the Americas. Since ActionAid Ireland was founded in 1983, we have taken sides with poor people to end poverty and injustice working mainly with communities in Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, Cambodia, Nepal and Vietnam.

Through our Child Sponsorship programmes and our strong Irish supporter base, we are improving the lives of thousands of children and communities by helping them to secure their basic rights to food, water, shelter, medical attention and education. We believe that poor and marginalised people should shape and take responsibility for their own development by identifying and claiming their rights. We stand alongside them every step of the way by championing their rights through international campaigns on food rights, women's rights, HIV & AIDS and education.

The emphasis of all our work is on sustainable long term development and creating change that lasts. We work with over 2,000 international partners and with existing community organisations who know the people and the issues.  ActionAid also works in emergency situations providing immediate relief and setting up long-term projects that help communities rebuild their lives and reduce their vulnerability to future disasters and conflicts. We focus on the root causes of poverty and not just the results.

CORK ANIMAL CARE SOCIETY

The Cork Animal Care Society is a voluntary animal welfare charity based in Cork.

We aim to care for stray, unwanted, abused, neglected, sick and injured animals as well as providing them with veterinary care where appropriate and safe accomodation until permanent homes are found.

We have developed a low cost spay and neutering program with specific vets in Cork and an educational programme for schools and businesses to encourage responsible pet ownership and awareness of the animal welfare problems in Ireland.

Since our formation in October 2000 we have rescued and rehomed approx 6000 animals. We are hoping to continue to do so in the future with your help and all our wonderful volunteers.

Dogs Trust

We are delighted to be open for rehoming in Dublin, building on the education, microchipping and neutering campaigns we’ve offered throughout Ireland since 2005.

To date, we have spent over €5m neutering dogs and our education team has delivered classroom talks to thousands of school children about responsible dog ownership.

Over 10,000 stray and abandoned dogs were destroyed in Ireland in 2008. That’s over 27 dogs per day.

Our mission in Ireland is to bring an end to the destruction of stray and abandoned dogs.

Dublin SPCA

The Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is Ireland’s largest, most progressive and innovative animal welfare organisation. Every year we rescue and rehabilitate thousands of sick and injured domestic animals and wildlife and place them in loving homes or return them to the wild.

We treat the animals that come into our care like our own family. We do all that we can to ensure a healthy and happy life for pets and wildlife. This philosophy is at the core of all that we do from medical treatment and rehabilitation to standing up for the rights of neglected and abused animals by lobbying for improved legislation and prosecution.

Glen of Imaal Mountain Rescue

Despite our name, we operate throughout the Wicklow and Dublin Mountains! The team is entirely voluntary and is available 24 hours/365 day a year to assist anyone who has become lost, injured or trapped in the mountains.

We have been rescuing people since 1983 and have seen a steady increase in the amount of incidents each year. Because of this we need constant training and increased funding.

To reduce the wear and tear on equipment and to improve efficiency, we have decided to construct a purpose-built Rescue Base. For the last 27 years, we have had to keep vehicles and life-saving equipment at different team members’ homes. As the demand on the team has increased we’ve decide to take this leap sooner rather than later. Needless to say, the team will be under a lot of pressure in the short term, as we fundraise to meet the cost of construction. We are asking for assistance throughout the community, and for people to contribute in any way they can.

Every contribution is valuable and goes directly towards saving lives in the mountains.

GOAL

About GOAL

GOAL is an international humanitarian agency dedicated to the alleviation of the suffering of the poorest of the poor. GOAL is non-denominational, non-governmental and non-political. Since being established in 1977, GOAL has proudly kept our administrative costs exceptionally low.

What GOAL Does

GOAL works towards ensuring that the most vulnerable in our world and those affected by humanitarian crises have access to the fundamental needs and rights of life, i.e. food, water, shelter, medical attention and education.

GOAL has responded to nearly every major natural and manmade disaster for over three decades and is currently operational in 11 countries across the developing world. As well as responding to emergencies, GOAL implements rehabilitation and long-term development programmes and works with local partner organizations that have the same objectives as GOAL. While GOAL’s priority is to bring life-saving assistance to people affected by humanitarian crises, through the provision of food, healthcare and other basic services, it also prioritises programmes which care for street children and people affected by HIV/AIDS.

Once emergency situations have been resolved, GOAL implements a wide range of rehabilitation and development programmes including primary healthcare, the rehabilitation of homes, clinics and schools, water and sanitation provision and capacity building with local partner organizations.

Fundraising for GOAL

While GOAL welcomes all fundraising proposals, please note that we do not support events involving extreme sports such as parachute jumps. Neither do we support events which incur costs to be paid for from donations or funds raised by the event. If you have any queries please contact GOAL’s Fundraising Department on +353 (0) 1 2809779.

Homeless Child

Homeless Child believes that no child should live in poverty. In Rio de Janeiro, more than 7 million children are living on the street, faced with extreme violence, sexual exploitation, dire poverty and an ever increasing crack epidemic that kills every addicted child within 6-8 months.

Our projects give these children a chance for a home, an education, love and a future.

By building social networks which provide care, support and access to education, we work to strengthen the capacity of local communities and families through a network of locally based partnerships, and provide shelter and a family environment to those children who have no place to go.

By getting involved with Homeless Child you can help make a difference to the lives of Rio de Janeiro’s most vulnerable children.

ISPCA National Animal Centre

About the ISPCA – Registered Charity CHY 5619

The ISPCA (Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes some of Ireland’s most abused, neglected and cruelty treated animals.

In 2002 the ISPCA National Animal Centre in County Longford was opened. This purpose built animal rehabilitation centre is home to some of Ireland’s most abused animals. Staff and volunteers are called upon to deal with animals that have been subjected to the most horrendous cruelty and neglect you could imagine and calls to the ISPCA National Animal Cruelty Helpline 1890 515 515 have escalated beyond comprehension. With a small team of five ISPCA Animal Welfare Inspectors for the entire country, along with affiliated voluntary societies, they investigate animal welfare complaints of cruelty, neglect and abuse.  When a call is received from a concerned member of the public about an animal they feel has been subjected to mistreatment, an inspector covering that area will investigate the situation and depending on the severity of the case, the

The ISPCA depends on voluntary charitable donations from members of the public to continue their work but funds are now insufficient to meet the demands placed on their services. We all appreciate times are hard but we also know we must continue to promote a duty of care for all animals.  Please help the ISPCA ensure animals are valued and cared for, not neglected or abandoned when times get tough.  For further information and ways you can help, please visit www.ispca.ie or contact 043 33 25399 or email carmel@ispca.ie
