GOAL

About GOAL

GOAL has responded to nearly every major natural and manmade disaster in the past 33 years and is currently operational in 11 countries in the developing world. It also implements rehabilitation and long-term development programmes and works with local partner organizations that have the same objectives as GOAL.

Local Development

While GOAL’s priority is to bring life-saving assistance to people affected by humanitarian crises, through the provision of food, healthcare and other basic services, it also prioritises programmes which care for street children and people affected by HIV/AIDS. Once emergency situations have been resolved, GOAL implements a wide range of rehabilitation and development programmes including primary healthcare, rehabilitation of homes, clinics and schools, water and sanitation provision and capacity building with local partner organizations. GOAL is proud of the fact that we have managed to achieve all of this whilst keeping our administrative costs exceptionally low.

Advocacy

Apart from offering practical assistance to the poor GOAL also advocates on their behalf. GOAL gives a voice to those who have no voice. We continue to try and convince the international community to honour its obligations to the poor and endeavour to exert as much pressure as possible on governments and other institutions with the capacity to bring about real change. This form of advocacy is a major part of the GOAL philosophy and has, for example helped to keep the issue of poverty in the developing world very much on the agenda for the Irish Government at national, European and international levels.
