Christina Noble Children’s Foundation

Organisation ID: CHY12636

History

Christina Noble, affectionately known by the children as ‘Mama Tina’ is the Founder and driving force behind the Foundation. Christina Noble grew up in the Liberties of Dublin in the 1950’s. She understands from firsthand experience, a childhood of pain & betrayal, as well as the loneliness & suffering caused from living on the streets. She is a staunch campaigner of children’s rights throughout the world. Her life is a testimony to one woman’s determination to turn personal pain and deprivation into triumph.

Driven by a dream and her own childhood background, in 1989 Christina traveled to Vietnam, her vision was to work amongst the street and disadvantaged children. Christina has since worked tirelessly to promote her vision of a non-political and non-religious Children’s Foundation that cares for children within their own culture, seeking to maximize the potential of each child, with love, dignity and respect.

The Foundation was established in 1991, and has since established over 110 projects assisting over 500,000 of the poorest and most vulnerable children. In 1997 Christina extended the Foundation’s work into Mongolia, There she found a country struggling to come to terms with the transition to a market economy and parliamentary democracy after decades as the former Soviet Union’s most dependent satellite. The fracturing of the Mongolian economy was reflected in an absolute breakdown of values: children roamed the streets seeking shelter from the bitterly cold winter temperatures of –30C and below, down manholes, below the city streets.

CNCF is involved in numerous activities including medical care, educational assistance, well drilling, establishing and developing educational facilities, revolving loan programmes, emergency assistance to children and their families, and shelters for street children.
