BirdWatch Ireland

History

BirdWatch Ireland is the trading name of the Irish Wildbird Conservancy (IWC) formed in 1969 through the merger of the Irish Ornithologist’s Club, the Irish Society for the Protection of Birds and the Irish Wildfowl Committee. In the forty years since its foundation, BirdWatch Ireland staff, supporters, members and volunteers have created a national network of protected wildlife reserves, which are managed for birds and biodiversity. We have also built up decades of crucial scientific data and research on Ireland’s wild birds and their habitats, which helps us in the formation of our conservation policies. We need your help to build on this work into the future to conserve and protect Ireland’s environment for the next generations.
