Myasthenia Gravis Association

Organisation ID: CHY1046443

History

The first Myasthenia Gravis meeting took place in 1968  in England, at that meeting a committee was formed to support MG patients.

Throughout the 1970’s MG branches were formed across the U.K. to provide local support to patients. This included Northern Ireland. In the 1980’s all Irish myasthenics were supported by the Northern Ireland branch.

In the late 90’s the Myasthenia Gravis Association appointed a Regional Organiser to provide support to all myasthenics and their families in Ireland - North and South. This role also included creating public and medical awareness of MG and raising funds to support medical research.

As awareness grew and more diagnosis’s were made, the need for another Regional Organiser in Ireland was identified and so in 2001 the Myasthenia Gravis Association put an Organiser in place both North and South of the border.

The Republic of Ireland now has it’s own National Coordinator to provide support to patients, create awareness and raise funds for medical research and further essential projects in Ireland.
