Do the AIRTEL Kolkata (Calcutta) Marathon for HOPE! Plan Ireland Wicklow Mountains Half Marathon
The AIRTEL Kolkata (Calcutta) Marathon is on Sunday, 21st February 2010.

Over 20,000 participants will be taking part making it the largest Marathon in eastern India. Like previous years there will be three races: Men’s Marathon (42.195 km), Woman’s Run (10.50 km) and a Celebrity Run (4.20 km).

To take part, athletes need to fundraise €3,000 for HOPE. As well as doing the race, you will spend four days with The Hope Foundation in Calcutta visiting HOPE projects to see first hand where your fundraised money is going.		 The children’s development charity Plan Ireland seeks your support for a project to increase the number of girls attending school in the West African country of Togo by building and upgrading schools to make them “girl friendly”.

The idea for girl friendly schools came about following research which revealed that girls are often kept from school by parents to look after younger siblings or else they stay away for fear of corporal punishment from teachers, bullying from boys and the lack of hygiene and sanitation facilities.

For more details see http://www.plan.ie/involved/Togo/		 The DEBRA Ireland Wicklow Mountains Half-Marathon is taking place on the 21st March 2010. Designed to test your stamina and fitness, this is a race like no other; over 1,000 meters of climbing and 21km of mountain trails. The route will take you through beautiful valleys and along remote tracks high in the mountains. The views stretch along the East Coast over the Irish Sea and deep into Ireland’s largest upland area- the Wicklow Mountains.

Registration cost: €20, and we will be asking all participants to fundraise minimum €50 for DEBRA Ireland.
