Sponsor an African Scholar (SAAS)

Sponsor an African Scholar (SAAS) is an Irish charity that provides sustainable solutions to communities in Kenya. SAAS was founded in early 2006 in response to the exploitation been experienced by young people and their families who live in extreme poverty.

In Kenya post primary education is a fee paying privilege rather than a right. Our sponsorship programme provides students with the fees to enable them to attend secondary school, vocational training and third level colleges. We also support students with free counselling services, career guidance, educational trips plus school uniforms and books.

In addition to the sponsorship programme we provide information on drug abuse, addiction and its link with HIV/AIDS to over 20,000 students and teaching staff in 50 schools throughout Mombasa province.

In collaboration with local partners we also assist in the development of educational projects such as setting up a Microsoft Licensed IT training centre, library, school staff house and residential drug treatment services.
