Huntingtons Disease Association of Ireland

Organisation ID: CHY10130

Huntington’s disease (HD) is a progressive neurological condition which leads to physical, emotional and cognitive impairment. It is an inherited condition and each child of an affected parent has a 50% risk of inheriting the affected gene.  Anyone inheriting the gene will develop HD.

Symptoms of Huntington’s disease usually begin between the ages of 30 and 50 years, although they may start at any time from childhood (Juvenile HD) to old age.

Huntington’s Disease Association of Ireland (HDAI) is a national voluntary organisation established by HD family members to provide consultation, information and individualised support to those diagnosed with HD, their families and their health care teams.
